Creative Costumes Ideas For Halloween 2011

Making your own Mummy costume is a great creative costume idea. This mummy costume wil be a hit for trick or treating as well as any Halloween party that you may go to. Also this costume might even win you a prize at your costume contest.

To make this costume,  a visit to your local thrift store may be in order or you may have some of the materials stored in your closet. You will need a white turtleneck sweater or long sleeve t-shirt,  white pants, and a couple of white sheets, and a large box of tea bags. 

First, fill some five gallon buckets with hot water and add the tea bags. Then put all of your materials in the buckets and let it soak for around six hours. This is going to give the costume an aged look!  After it is done soaking, take out the clothing and sheets and hang them up to dry.

Once the sheets are dry,  cut 3 inch slits down the side of the sheet every 2-3 inches. Then start ripping the strips off  of the sheet.

Now that you have your strips,  start wrapping them around your turtlneck or t-shirt. You will then need to sew the strips on the shirt and the sleeves overlapping each strip.  The easiest way to do the sleeves is to cut down the length of the sleeve before sewing the strips on and then sew it back together. Dont worry about being perfect, it will look more authentic if isnt exact.

For the pants, cut down the inseam and then arrange your strips on the pants. Sew the strips on the pants starting from the bottom and then sew the inseams back together.  Now you have your homemade mummy costume. After putting on your costume, take some of the strips and wrap them around your head. You can sprinkle some baby powder on your costume for an added effect.

 As you can see, this method does take a little bit of skill with sewing, but you end up with a great costume. Below is another method for those of you that dont want to sew.
