Arrrg matey! Pirate costumes are great for halloween and can be worn for many fun events throughout the year. I live in Tampa and we have a big parade each year dedicated to pirates. The parade is the Gasparilla parade and is name after the pirate Jose Gaspar known as the “last of the buccaneers” Hence the football teamed called the Buccaneers! Jose Gaspar started in the Spanish Navy and eventually became an Admiral. After being framed for stealing the crown jewels, he took off for Florida where he became a pirate. His “career” as a pirate was over 38 years. He died on what was supposed to be his last plunder when his ship the Floridablanca tried to attack what he thought was a merchant ship and turned out to be the U.S.S Enterprise!
Today, the pirate spirit is celebrated in Tampa with the childrens Gasparilla Parade and the main Gasparilla Pirate Festival and Parade. You can be sure there is plenty of plundering and debauchery going on.
So you want to be a pirate. Pirate costumes are great for everyone. Whether you are looking for an adult pirate costume, a girls pirate costume, or a pirate wench costume, everyone can get in on the fun. If you are looking at making a costume, you may be able to find many items in your home and purchase the pirate accessories. You will be looking like Capt Jack Sparrow in no time!
Headgear is the first thing to consider. You can go with the traditional three corner hat or a red bandana.
The eye patch is a must. You can add some fake teeth and stage makeup to complete the effect. A nice scar would be perfect.
You can go with a long sleeve white shirt or any colorful long sleeve shit if you wish. Add a vest for more effect unless you can find a long coat to go with the costume.
For pants, a nice baggy dark color is best. Add a pair of tall boots of the fake leggings and you are set. Dont forget your sword, sabre, or knife to complete the effect.
You can always purchase complete costumes. Click on any of the pictures shown here to find out more information on ready made costumes.
